Large Seeding Projects - Information & Expectations
The timing & weather conditions have a lot to do with how quickly you will see results & how much nurturing it will take to achieve a dense, established lawn.

THE BEST TIME TO SEED YOUR LAWN IN MASSACHUSETTS
When seeding around August 10–September 30, we have excellent results with quick, easy establishment. It is by far the best time of the year to seed.
SPRING LAWN SEEDING & FERTILIZATION IN MASSACHUSETTS
When seeding April 15–May 31, we have good results with getting the lawn started, but not fully established before the hottest part of the season. The key is to follow an aggressive fertilization plan up to early July & again from mid-August to November. The lawn may not look great or fully established through the summer, but it will recover & become fully established later in the season. The key in the summer months is to mow it as usual, even if it doesn’t look great. If some re-seeding is needed, it will be done in Late August–early September.
AVOID SEEDING YOUR LAWN IN THE SUMMER MONTHS
Seeding in June & July is not ideal & should be avoided if possible. It’s important to understand what to expect when seeding this time of year. The lawn will have aggressive crabgrass competition, it will be susceptible to drought & heat conditions that impact the seed, even with proper irrigation & heavy fast fast-moving thunderstorms that cause washouts & seed run-off. Even though the lawn looks terrible, it’s important to mow & maintain it weekly as usual. You will need to re-seed in mid to late August or early September.
Other Important Information for All Seed Projects
Please see our detailed Grow In Instructions. It is crucial to fully read the instructions. It’s best to apply starter fertilizer every 2–3 weeks for the first 6–8 weeks after seeding. If you are hiring a fertilization service, you should contact them before the seeding & confirm they can implement a program that will include more frequent applications than usual. Seeded areas should be watered briefly 3-4 times a day to keep the surface of the soil moist as often as possible.
